Selvatura Butterfly Garden & Insect Museum

The butterfly garden at Selvatura Park is a beautiful entomological experience recommended for people of all ages and physical condition. To complement our visitor's experience at the butterfly garden, we commend to visit the amazing Bio-Art Insect Museum which hosts not only most of the butterflies found in Costa Rica but in the world as well as other insects from all over the planet. The exhibit is a must see for anyone visiting the Monteverde area!

The center features biologist Richard Whitten's world class educational exhibits "Jewels of the Rain Forest", one of the largest private insect exhibitions anywhere in the world with over 1,000,000 specimens! Dr. Whitten has combined natural history and art in a unique format which inspires visitors to appreciate these wondrous creatures from a holistic perspective, totally different from that usually encountered. Visitors will receive a guided tour to learn about arthropod biodiversity worldwide with special emphasis on the remarkable, fantastic, diminutive creatures of the Monteverde area and Costa Rica.
