Frommer's Costa Rica guide book write up

This converted mansion is a real jewel inside. Built 100 years ago by a coffee Baron, the house was once to be bulldozed in order to expand the Aurolasī Holiday Innīs parking lot. Needless to say, it was not, and under the direccion of American Thomas Douglas, itīs been restored to its former grandeur.
The first thing you see when you walk through the front door is the beautiful carved-wood desk that serves as the reception area. In the guest rooms you will find similar pieces of exquisitely crafted antique reproductions, made here in Costa Rica from rare hardwoods. Keeping with the theme, the hardwood floors throughout most of the hotel are original and were made from a type of tree that has long since become almost impossible to find. The vary in size, but most fairly large and have a small table and chairs. Skylights in some bathrooms will brighten your morning, and queen-size beds will provide a good nightīs sleep.
Maps of Costa Rica hang on the walls of all the guest rooms so you can get aquainted with the country. There are a couple of patio areas, as well as a TV lounge and combination breakfast room and outdoor bar. Laundry service and a baggage storage room are available. The staff and management are extremely helpful with tour arrangements and any other needs or requests.
