Lonely Planet Costa Rica guide book write up

An Excellent downtown choise is The Hotel Santo Tomas. They have about 20 rooms with tiled or wood floors and high ceilings in a refurnished early-20th century house. The interesting original ventilation system built into the ceilings is still in use and works well. Antique pieces and Persian rugs add to the elegance of the public areas and rooms.

There is a small bar and TV lounge. The hotel is very confortable, and has helpful and friendly management who go out of their way to arrange hotel reservations, car rentals, and tours for you. Spanish, English, German and Portuguese are spoken. Affable North Carolinian owner, Thomas Douglas, prides himself of choosing top-notch staff. All rooms have hot showers (some with tub), TV and phone. Stay a few days and get a discount. The hotel has a locked gate for 24 hour security and the room are set back from the busy street so that traffic noise is minimal.
