Set on the edge of the Cerro Plano region (which lies between Santa Elena and the Monteverde Reserve), the Hotel Belmar is close to a number of excellent diversions, including the butterfly garden, Hidden Valley Trail and Ecological Sanctuary. In both the Chalet and the Main House (which was constructed in 1991), the rooms are exquisitely and comfortably fashioned. Large, hardwood-floored rooms include a central bed, sitting area, and private hot water bathroom. The rooms are decorated with native artwork and soft lighting, and extend outdoors onto sizeable balconies that overlook the mountains and, in the distance, the Gulf of Nicoya. Additionally, all accommodations are equipped with a hairdryer, telephone and safe deposit box, and some even have mini bars and wireless internet access.
Hotel Belmar’s facilities are equally impressive. Their restaurant offers meals made from fresh, local ingredients, and their bar serves a variety of refreshing drinks. After a long day spent exploring Monteverde, guests can relax in the Jacuzzi, which presents panoramic views of the Gulf of Nicoya. Those in need of recreation can head to the basketball court or game room – the latter of which hosts a well-maintained pool table and TV – or take a walk along the hotel’s self-guided forest trail.
