In the 1950's a group of Quakers from the United States settled in Monteverde. They dedicated themselves to agriculture and started dairy farms and the famous Monteverde Cheese Factory. This started the grow of the area and stimulated in later years the start of tourism.
Monteverde is a great place for eco tourists, but anyone interested in nature should not miss out on a visit to this small mountain village, once in Costa Rica. The biodiversity of the Monteverde area is world famous, you will have a chance to see a lot of different flora and fauna, all distributed over a relatively small area. Hotel Belmar was one of the pioneers in tourism development, starting in 1985 with its first building, the Chalet. This was inspired by memories of Austrian architecture from when the Costa Rican-Chilean owners, spent time living in Europe. The hotel Belmar has two houses; the Main House and the Chalet.
The Main house is the newer building with 14 rooms, restaurant and reception. All 28 rooms have a view of the Gulf of Nicoya, balcony and a private bathroom with hot water.
There is a private trail for guests of the hotel and facilities include restaurant and bar, basketball court, pool table, Jacuzzi and laundry service.
Located about 1600 feet (500 meters) from the main road, your stay at the hotel will be peaceful and quiet and create a lasting impression of the beauty of Monteverde.
