Las Orquideas
Las Orquideas is a small Costa Rican family run Monteverde hotel with only 8 rooms and great views of the surrounding mountains and Gulf of Nicoya (Pacific slope). The Zamora family lived several years in the USA, speaks perfect English and love to help out travelers with tips and info about the Monteverde area. Conveniently located 300 meters (1,000 feet) before the Santa Elena Village, just before the turn off for the Monteverde Reserve (5km). See Monteverde Map (center left)
Clean and comfortable rooms with orthopedic mattresses, wood paneling and private bathrooms with hot shower.
Generous full breakfast is available on request and served Costa Rican style: juice, coffee, eggs, rice and beans (Gallo Pinto), toast, tropical fruits and fried platanos. Our guests are welcome to use our fully equipped kitchen to prepare their meals or breakfast and our cable TV living room. Dinner and lunch are available with a short 5 minutes walk to the village (or $2 by taxi, 3 minutes) where you can find the bus stop, supermarket, bakery, police station, several souvenir shops, 2 bars where you can dance or shoot pool and a choice of 10 nearby restaurants. Internet, phone and fax as well as free safe parking are available.

If you come to Monteverde by public bus from San Jose or Puntarenas the bus driver will drop you off right in front of the Hotel if you ask him. If you are coming by bus from Arenal, Tilaran or Puntarenas via Las Juntas, just get off at the main bus stop and take a taxi to Hotel Las Orquideas (3 minutes, $2). The taxi / boat / taxi from or to Arenal Volcano stops at our door as well as the local Monteverde horseback riding tour and daily Costa Rica Shuttle offered by this excellent website. ALL rooms with private bathroom and hot water.
