Monteverde’s two cloud forest reserves are a wonderful example of how Costa Rica is attempting to preserve its natural resources. Once you’ve made it into town, be sure to not miss out on hiking in the Monteverde or Santa Elena Reserve. While exploring these trails, you might encounter a white-nosed coati, an agouti, or three-wattled bellbird. Thrill-seekers can sign up for a zip-line tour, which will have them flying through the forest along a series of cables.
Cabinas Bella Vista is a family-owned and operated business whose central location makes it easy for guests to enjoy Monteverde’s wide range of activities. Its name means “Beautiful View Cabins” in Spanish, an appropriate title considering that guests will be able enjoy views of the Gulf of Nicoya and the spectacular sunsets that often fall above it.
Accommodations consist of simple freestanding cabins. The cabins are brightly colored with yellows and pinks, and have private bathrooms and hot water showers. All come equipped with a mini-fridge, coffee maker and microwave, allowing guests to store and heat food at home.
There are small lawns and wooden tables outside some of the rooms, and a gazebo where guests can enjoy drinks or conversation. Breakfast can be included in the price of a room.
