Monteverde is best known for its two cloud forest reserves. Exploring these reserves, visitors can search for monkeys, sloths, coatis and more. Hiking trails wind through the base of the forest and suspension bridges spread across the upper reaches of its canopy. Other popular activities within the area include zip line tours, horseback rides and mountain bike trips. There are a number of interesting museums – including ones dedicated to bats, frogs, butterflies and orchids – that are fascinating to visit as well.
Hotel El Sueno is a family-owned and operated lodge set in the center of Santa Elena. Its central location allows its guests to sample the many cafes, restaurants and shops nearby, as well as organize tours or other activities with ease.
All rooms at El Sueno have a private entrance and either single or double beds. Accommodations have shared or private bathrooms and hot water showers (a nice perk considering the chilly weather that Monteverde occasionally receives). Furthermore, the hotel has three cabins in the back of its property that are equipped with private balconies.
A communal kitchen allows guests to store and cook their own food. There is, however, a restaurant that serves both lunch and dinner upon request. Sack lunches can be made for guests on the go, and a daily breakfast from 6-8 AM is available for a reasonable price. The large, wooden dining room and adjoining outdoor patio are pleasant places to eat or chat with friends.
There is a security box in the reception as well as a computer and printer for guests to use as needed.
