To get to Monteverde by bus, first take a taxi from the San José airport to "La Radial." This will cost about $5 and takes around 10 minutes. La Radial is a store that sells car parts and is located about 1 kilometer (just over half a mile) north of the airport along the road to Alajuela.
If you do not speak Spanish, you can tell your cab driver the following sentence to explain where you need to go: "Puede llevarme a La Radial, un kilometro al norte camino hacia a Alajuela, cerca del Mall International." If this seems too difficult, you shouldn't have a hard time finding a taxi driver or policeman who speaks English.
The bus passes by this stop at approximately 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM, and arrives in Monteverde 4 hours later. The bus will say Monteverde on the front.
