The construction of Selvatura Park is certified by the College of Architects and Engineers of Costa Rica and have all the insurance policies as well as MINAE permits necessary to guarantee the safety and enjoyment of our visitors.

Canopy Tour

Selvatura Park includes an outstanding canopy tour that is built into the cloud forest rather than above it. It gives participants a feel of being within the canopy and part of the forest. (view selvatura photo canopy tour gallery)

Visitors navigate through and over the cloud forest canopy while attached to a high weight capacity cable. This tour not only combines the thrill of one of Costa Rica's most safe and popular adventures, but also provides a unique view point of the cloud forest canopy. An introduction to the safety equipment and demonstration by the professional guides pre-empts the tour but after that you are ready to fly through the cloud forest canopy!

Also featured during the tour is our Tarzan Swing where those with an adventurous spirit will surely have a blast. The Tarzan Swing is a side activity included in the tour where we give our visitors the option of swinging through the forest while attached to a high security rope, with which they jump out of a platform and experience adventure at its best.

The tour consists of 15 cables, 18 platforms and one Tarzan Swing. There is a total of 2.0 miles of total cable length. It is suitable for people of all ages although it's not recommended for people with weight in excess of 280 pounds or with a waist width of more that 120cm and 80 cm thigh width. Visitors should wear long pants, closed toe shoes and depending on the weather some rain gear.

Tree Top Suspension Bridges

The Selvatura Park suspension bridges are tree top walkways through virgin cloud forest and one of the most amazing ways to experience the beauty of this rare ecosystem. (view tree top bridges photo gallery)

The treetop walkway tour consists on 1.9 miles of trails in which visitors will encounter eight bridges of various lengths which range between 170 feet and 560feet. Each bridge features 5 foot width and capacity of 80 people per bridge which makes the treetop walkways at Selvatura Park not only the longest bridge system in Costa Rica but also the safest and strongest. Come and admire these awesome structures which were built in San Jose, transported to Monteverde and carried on shoulder by our workers to be assembled inside the cloud forest thus minimizing damage to the cloud forest as much as possible.

The treetop walkways can be enjoyed by people of all ages and physical conditions. Most of the trail is flat and climbs are very small. The trail is a circuit so our visitors won't get lost and may walk at their own rhythm. Naturalist Guided Tour

As a complement to the Treetop Walkways you can hire a Natural History Walk which provides our visitors with a broader and more thorough experience of the marvels of the cloud forest, they are conducted by naturalist guides specialized in the area of Monteverde and Selvatura Park, which ensures that each walk will have a biological, ornithological and cultural approach of Monteverde and the cloud forest.

Our Natural History Walks are formed of groups of up to 8 people at a time, although different options may be worked out for bigger groups regardless of their size. Selvatura Butterfly Garden & Insect Museum

The Selvatura Park offers one of the largest butterfly gardens in the Americas, with the giant garden is 300 feet long and 90 feet wide with a 50 feet dome ceiling. The photo-thermic Saran helps control the temperature inside the garden. A perfect temperature that enables our garden to host more than 50 different species of butterflies from different altitudes and climates found throughout Costa Rica. The butterfly garden at Selvatura Park is a beautiful entomological experience recommended for people of all ages and physical condition. To complement our visitor's experience at the butterfly garden, we commend to visit the amazing Bio-Art Insect Museum which hosts not only most of the butterflies found in Costa Rica but in the world as well as other insects from all over the planet. The exhibit is a must see for anyone visiting the Monteverde area!

The center features biologist Richard Whitten's world class educational exhibits "Jewels of the Rain Forest", one of the largest private insect exhibitions anywhere in the world with over 1,000,000 specimens!

Dr. Whitten has combined natural history and art in a unique format which inspires visitors to appreciate these wondrous creatures from a holistic perspective, totally different from that usually encountered. Visitors will receive a guided tour to learn about arthropod biodiversity . worldwide . with special emphasis on the remarkable, fantastic, diminutive creatures of the Monteverde area and Costa Rica.

Hummingbird Garden

At the Selvatura Hummingbird Garden, visitors will observe more than 14 different species of hummingbirds including species that are not commonly seen in other areas of Monteverde. At our garden the relaxing waterfalls and the beautiful natural floral arrangements provide a perfect setting for natural photography lovers. The hummingbird garden is also a perfect picnic area. Reptile & Amphibian Exhibition

Selvatura Park Reptile and Amphibian Exhibition includes frogs, lizards, geckos, snakes and many other kinds of reptiles and amphibians from more than 30 different species found throughout Costa Rica and is the only herpetarium (exhibition of both reptiles and amphibians together) in the area. In this guided tour, our visitors will be able to observe live specimens inside terrariums with specialized climate control that provides these wonderful creatures with home-like habitats.

Each terrarium can be completely circled for an easier observation of each specimen. The creatures are cared for and monitored by the permanent onsite biologist. During this tour our visitors will learn about the behavior of tree-frogs as well as about ground frogs and toads. They will also learn the differences between each of these families.
